Tetzaveh- Multimedia Ideas
CRAFT:
- Make a Ner Tamid for your own little Mishkan. Use a shoe box and cover it with pieces of tissue paper and cover with a glue wash to make it shiny. After that dries, stick yellow, orange and red tissue into the box so it looks like a flame.
- Make an Aharon doll out of poster board, then make all the different clothing that the Kohein Gadol wore and make a paper doll.
- Make a breastplate for your dress-up corner. Also, talk about what the clothes the Kohein Gadol wore and what they looked like. Make a robe, an apron and a headband to use in the family corner.
SCIENCE:
- Take a can of black olives and squeeze them to see if you can get olive oil like they used to light the ner tamid.
DRAMATIC PLAY:
- Get out your dress-up clothes and play Kohein gadol, make sure you have a few breastplates with 12 jewels on them! An old karate suit makes great pants and jacket and belt, you can use a Yemenite kippah and cut a head band out of gold poster board. Any apron and long shirt will work fine and you’re ready to go! Try to dye the coat the colors that Hashem likes (Red, blue and purple). You can use a pomegranate to make prints on the coat (Hashem said there should be golden bells and pomegranates on the coat).
MATH:
- Discuss things that incorporate the number 12, i.e. a dozen is 12. Have egg cartons available to fill 12 stones, etc.English and Hebrew, of course!
COOKING:
- Make an edible breast plate to look like the one the Kohein Gadol wore: Take 2 squares of graham crackers, one above the other. Smear with cream cheese. Place 12 round pieces of fruit snacks or jellybeans of different colors on the crackers to represent the jewels of the 12 tribes. Attach a string of red licorice for the part that goes around the neck.
